One of the challenges of moving is meeting new friends. Andrew, Matthew and Jacob have all been extremely lucky in our new town, but there is something about old friends. Ever since we moved, the boys have asked when we could return to see our friends. With the Christmas festivities finished, we decided to wrap up 2011 with a trip to The Woodlands.
While not everyone was available due to the Christmas break, the boys were able to see more than 20 friends. We met some at parks, went to others' houses, and returned to our old cul-de-sac to see old neighbors. It was a whirlwind, two day trip, but it was a joy to see the boys reconnect with friends they have grown up with so far.
We also visited our old church, a favorite restaurant and drove around to see a few familiar sights. We ended our fun with friends by going for dinner and ice cream at a local shopping area called Market Street. There was an enormous Christmas tree and the colored water fountain.
While the real purpose of the trip was for the boys to see their friends, I was able to see and at least visit for a few minutes with about 12 of my friends. I wish I could have seen more though, especially the ladies from my bunko group. I am so glad the boys pushed me to make the trip. It was bittersweet to see everyone. With no family in The Woodlands, these were the people that became our "family away from family." These ladies supported me in so many ways for the 11 years we lived there. I loved to see them all, but it was tough to leave again.
While I know it has only been six months since we have moved, I haven't found those kind of relationships here yet. It is tough to start over after so much time. I am looking forward finding friends that can help fill that void in some ways. I know it will just take time. I just have to remind myself to be patient.
