Second Grade Goes to the Zoo

The second graders at Matthew's school went to the Houston Zoo today.  Jacob and I tagged along.
To start, they got up close and personal with the Meerkats.
Then we headed into the reptile house.
The baby elephants were having a wrestling match.
Did you know that a Maned Wolf smells like a skunk?
Both boys agreed that seeing the Chimpanzees was one of the best parts of the zoo.
The rhinos and giraffes are part of the new African safari exhibit.
We watched this giraffe try to reach the palm leaves with it's tongue.
This giraffe statue looks pretty real.
The tiger was making a lot of noise today.  Lots to say, I guess.
The lions were impressive.  The male is named Jonathan.
We happened upon a zookeeper using a spray bottle to give this jaguar some milk.
This mandrill made an impression on Jacob.  He loved it's colorful face.
This orangutan was just hanging out enjoying the beautiful day.
 This porcupine had orange teeth.
After seeing the eagle's nest on Tuesday, it was really interesting to see this bald eagle up close.
Our last exhibit to see was the prairie dog town.
Matthew wanted to take a quick stop for a photo op and then we had to meet back up with the rest of the class to catch the bus back to school.  It was so fun watching Matthew and Jacob get excited about the amazing animals.
