Honoring Our Veterans

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, but the children have a school holiday, so the boys' elementary school had a special assembly today to honor the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces.  Students were encouraged to invite any family members who have served to come to the assembly to be recognized.
The PTA put up an "Honor Board" to pay tribute to family members.  My dad, aka Papaw, came to the assembly this morning.  Matthew was so excited to show him where his picture is on the board. (It is the small one centered in this photograph under the largest one.)
The entire third grade sang "God Bless the USA."  They really sang their hearts out!  It was touching.
After the assembly, Matthew's class had a Young Author's Celebration during which each student had the opportunity to read a sample of their writing aloud to parents and classmates.  Matthew read a humorous poem.  I wish I had a copy to post.
As we were walking to and from school today, we felt the spirit of Veteran's Day as a neighborhood church had filled their lawn with American flags.

More Veteran's Day celebrations tomorrow...
