Austin Zoo

It was a beautiful day for a trip to the Austin Zoo.  The Austin Zoo is not like most zoos around the world.  It is a sanctuary.  Most of the animals there have been rescued from homes where people realized that having a wild animal as a pet is less than ideal.  Many of the animals have the circumstances by which they came to the zoo hanging on the outside of their enclosures.  We were all saddened to learn of the abuse or abandonment that the animals have experienced, but it is wonderful to see that there are places like the Austin Zoo that can help.

It had been many years since Andrew and Matthew had been there and despite the fact that he said, "I remember this place!", Jacob had never been.
The zookeepers were just beginning to feed the big cats.  There were about four lions and about six tigers.  The boys were amazed with how large the felines are.
We spent a long time watching this monkey.  The boys were fascinated by him/her.  He/She was so content just sitting there with the stuffed frog.  Occasionally, the monkey would reach over and hug the frog tightly.
The reptile house had snakes, lizards, and more!
Andrew liked to feed this alpaca.
 Jacob fed the deer.
We shared with all of the animals.  Matthew focused on the sheep.
Jacob spent a long time looking at the pigs.
We finished off our visit with a train ride.  There were wonderful hill country views and fun props along the way.  It was a fun family outing!
