I had 28 years of November 13th's that came and went without notice. Eleven years ago today, that all changed. I went into the doctor for a weekly check up. My due date wasn't for 10 more days, so I thought I had time to prepare a few meals for the freezer, wash a few more baby clothes, etc. No time for that. The doctor sent me straight to the hospital to find out if we were having a boy named Andrew Christopher or a girl named Elizabeth Carol. At 10:58 p.m., we got our 8 lb. 2 oz. answer and November 13th has been a most special day ever since then.
We brought home Andrew Christopher and we couldn't have been more excited. He is the one who has taught us how to be parents. He has been our guinea pig, surviving our learning curve. In many ways, eleven years has gone by in a flash, but at the same time, it is tough to remember him ever being that small.
So today it was time to celebrate!
We had cousins Megan and Ben over today for a little lunch time birthday cake. He found a recipe on the internet for an ice cream sandwich cake that he really wanted. What it is lacking in beauty, it makes up for in taste.
As is our tradition, he picked the restaurant for dinner. He picked The Melting Pot.
My parents came along too.
He enjoyed cooking his own food, but the best part was the dessert
The chocolate at the end is the best part.
The hostess brought us all Sprite mixed with blood orange juice in champagne glasses so we could toast a happy birthday to Andrew and many more to come!
