Jacob's First Haircut (and first lollipop)

We have had many times when we have been out in public and people have mistaken Jacob for a girl. While it was sad to say goodbye to his sweet curls, we decided it was time for his first haircut. After all, he is rapidly approaching his first birthday. We had planned to take him to the barber at home, but Hurricane Ike took our attention away from that so we waited until we had evacuated to Austin. We had plenty of time there awaiting news of the hurricane so we took him to the barber shop that Paul used to go to when we lived in Austin. A couple of the barbers there remembered Paul and complemented him on his beautiful daughter. Paul said, "That is why we are here."

Before

Jacob did really well during the haircut. He mostly just sat on Paul's lap and looked around. Everyone there marvelled at how well he was doing. With just a few minutes to go, he decided that he didn't want to sit still anymore and he was finished wearing the barber's cape. By offering him his first lollipop, we convinced him that he could sit still for a couple more minutes in order to add the finishing touches to his haircut. He thoroughly enjoyed the lollipop and the barber was able to finish the job. It was truly a painless experience and now Jacob looks like a little boy.

The only snag that we ran into was that the camera was extremely low on batteries. I thought I might miss the whole event. I think that is why the pictures appear to be a little blurry, but at least I was able to squeeze out several obligatory pictures in between the camera shutting down.

Oh, that is priceless - and you and Paul don't age! That's just wrong ;-) My love to all of you.
