Hurricane Ike appears to be headed to the Galveston/Houston area. Of course the meteorologists are giving us their best guess so we won't really know until it makes landfall. The schools have announced that classes are cancelled tomorrow, but we have decided to stay put and "shelter in place" as we have been instructed to do by authorities. The roads are likely to be crazy and we don't want to add to the traffic. We know that folks who live on or near the coast are truly in need of evacuating.
We made our obligatory trip to the grocery store and picked up a few things like bread, bananas and water. The store was a total nightmare (very little left on the shelves and tremendously long lines) but that is part of the experience. We also secured the outdoor furniture, plants, etc. in the garage so they won't become airborne. Hopefully this whole thing will blow over (literally and figuratively) and we will go on with our lives next week.
The boys are a little nervous about this storm from all of the news coverage so we are trying to limit our information gathering to the internet for now. They keep asking if our house is going to fall down. We are just telling them what is age appropriate and trying to calm their fears. This is just another one of life's adventures.
