Our stay in Colby, Kansas was pretty uneventful and this was the view we had for most of the day.
We did stop to eat a picnic lunch and to stretch our legs at Chadron State Park near Chadron, Nebraska. We just happened to find this park, but it was beautiful and well equipped. Hopefully, we can return for a longer visit another time.
After about 18 hours in the car over two days, our first stop in South Dakota was at Bedrock City in Custer.
It was a fun and easy way to let the boys burn off some of their pent up energy. We toured the park on their train,
went for a ride in the Flintmobile,
and played in the park.
In the replica of Bedrock City, officer Jacob found a couple of criminals to take to the jail and
we had to take advantage of a photo op at Mount Rockmore before we check out Mount Rushmore later in the week.
After a day of traveling and exploring Bedrock City, it was nice to arrive at our home away from home for the next couple of days. We rented a little cabin at the Crooked Creek Resort. It is literally only a small room with sleeping accommodations for five, so we got to cook out on a camp stove.
We planned to have spaghetti and meat sauce for dinner, but Paul had a little mishap with the noodles, so we had meat sauce with bread and salad. We ate well and learned a lot on our inaugural campout.
The boys still had energy to burn, so they went for a swim at the pool. We are loving South Dakota so far!
