Luckily, Matthew's birthday fell on a weekend, so we were able to hold his party on his actual birthday. One of the only negative things that Matthew has mentioned about moving is that he will not be able to attend Science Camp this year. To alleviate some "Mother's Guilt", I offered to have a Science Camp birthday party for him. He agreed that he would really like that. So, the director of the camp came today to perform some science experiments and to let the children pet her critters.
They made Pop Rockets using a film canister, Alka Seltzer and water.
They did a color swirl experiment with milk, food coloring and soap.
They created "Monster Hands" using rubber gloves, baking soda and vinegar.
The critters created a few reactions too. They ranged from "Wow! That's cool!" to "Eww!"
Only the birthday boy gets the distinct honor of having a tree frog nest in his hair.
This Bearded Dragon is named Princess Yoda.
Jacob was very gentle with Butterfinger, the bunny.
Amy, the snake, was Matthew's favorite.
Jacob did a great job with all of the animals. The only ones he didn't want to touch were the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Gee, he must be related to me. No way would I ever want to touch one of those creepy critters! Talk about "Eww!!!!"
We finished off the picture perfect day with cookie cake and ice cream. It was a wonderful day! Our little scientist really enjoyed his party!
Happy Birthday, Matthew!!
