One of my biggest concerns about moving has been how the boys would react. I know this is a major event, and I want to make it go as smoothly as possible for them. Right now, they are both enjoying being a part of the gymnastics team and I do not want them to feel that they need to quit gymnastics just because we are moving. That being said, I have been in contact with a gymnastics team in Austin about the possibility of our boys joining them when we move.
Much to my surprise, the owner of the gym invited my boys to come meet the coaches and practice with the team over Christmas break. I could not have asked for a warmer welcome for my boys at a gym! The coaches and team members were all friendly and encouraging. Andrew mostly did some strength work and conditioning, but I could tell he was itching to get back on the equipment. Just a couple of weeks and he will be able to get back into the swing of things (pun intended). Matthew just went in and gave it his all. I am proud of them for being brave enough to enter a new situation with confidence and openness.
I owe a debt of gratitude to the the owner of the gym for his willingness to allow Andrew and Matthew to work out with his team until they can join officially. Both boys left there after the three practices saying they really liked it. I sincerely hope that joining the new gym when we move will help them connect with a few friends that they know they have at least gymnastics in common with.
