Crayons and Canals

After being a very gracious hostess, Fran drove us back to pick Andrew up from camp.  We arrived back at International Gymnastics Camp to find a very happy and VERY tired boy.  Andrew had the time of his life.  His counselors were Martin and Michael.  Martin traveled from Ireland to be a camp counselor for the summer and by coincidence, Michael lives near us.  Andrew has participated in meets at his gym and he will be attending college in Austin starting in the fall.

We had about 6 hours before our plane took off and sitting in the airport with three boys didn't sound like much fun, so we decided to stop at The Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania.
The boys had fun creating masterpieces with different mediums.
After painting an underwater themed picture, they put it through the dryer.
They all spent a lot of time working with clay.
One of the exhibits was a glass writing wall.  Fran pointed out that we probably shouldn't be teaching children to write on walls.
In the same building as The Crayola Factory is the National Canal Museum.
Each boy was given a boat to move through a series of locks in a miniature canal.  The docent at the museum showed them how a canal system works and then they set off with their boats.
It was fun and they learned some things too!

We all truly enjoyed our trip.  I had hoped we might be able to see a few other friends, but it didn't work out.  Maybe next year!  Many thanks to Fran and her family for housing, feeding, and entertaining us all week!
