When I was a kindergarten teacher, we were usually beginning our fall study units around this time. One of those units included pumpkins, so we read pumpkin books.
This was one of our favorites.
This was one of our favorites.
We planted pumpkin seeds, and we sang pumpkin songs.
One of the songs that has forever stuck in my head is:
"The pumpkins are here, the pumpkins are there.
The pumpkins, the pumpkins are everywhere.
The pumpkins are up, the pumpkins are down,
The pumpkins, the pumpkins are all around."
It is sung to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell."
You are lucky that you don't get have to hear me sing it, but Jacob has heard it a few times lately as we awaited today's delivery of pumpkins to our church for the annual pumpkin patch.
We all pitched in, along with about 200 other volunteers, to unload about 40,000 pounds of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes in the record time of about 1 hour and 10 minutes. It was the perfect weather and activity to kick off fall.
There were so many volunteers that we were able to circle the entire patch.
Someone I know has a couple of reasons to be thrilled that October is knocking on the door.
