Encounter with a Deer

My caladiums were growing and adding lots of bright color to our yard until...
the local deer found them. Obviously, while not too surprising, it is very disappointing.

Then to make matters worse, I was on a walk with Flip at around 11 in the morning and I heard a sound behind us.  It was a doe.  We had seen her in the neighborhood and I thought she would go on by, so I stopped to let her pass.  She was about 6 feet from us and didn't seem to be headed home, so I resumed our walk.  It turned out that she chased me all the way around the block until I could get into the house.

After a little research, I have learned that during late May and early June, it is not uncommon for deer to try to defend their babies by pawing at people and dogs in particular.  We did not see her baby, but had heard another neighbor say there was one in their yard.

Lesson learned.  I will likely just leave Flip at home for the next few weeks just to be safe.
