Today Andrew had his first meet for the 2008-2009 gymnastics season. It was held in Spring, not too far from where we live. This is Andrew's first season to compete as a Level 5 gymnast. We weren't really sure what to expect, but he did incredibly well. Paul captured as much as he could on film.
The Vault consists of the boys running and jumping on a spring board and executing a front flip. That event occurs so quickly that we didn't get a shot from it, but Andrew placed 6th!
Below are pictures of the rest of the events:
On Floor Exercise he placed 2nd!

This piece of equipment is called a mushroom. It helps the boys train for the pommel horse. Andrew was required to complete 5 1/2 circles on it, but he chose to also do 2 leg flares and an additional 2 1/2 circles to earn bonus points.
On Pommel Horse he placed 2nd!
On Still Rings he placed 3rd!

On Parallel Bars he placed 3rd!

On High Bar he placed 2nd!
The All Around Competition is the sum of all of the scores.
Andrew placed 1st in the All Around!
Andrew was such a great competitor. He had a positive attitude and he tried his best. Medals or no medals, words cannot express how proud of him we are!
His next meet is in about a month. We are looking forward to a great season.
