When Jacob was a few months old, a friend told me about Infant Swimming Resource. (http://www.infantswim.com/) They teach infants and toddlers to flip over and come to the surface of the water and float in the event that they accidentally fall in the water. I decided that I really wanted Jacob to have this valuable skill. I know it is no substitute for parental supervision and hopefully he will never really need to use it, but I feel that it is a great tool for him to have. He was a real trooper. I will try to post a video of him in the pool sometime soon so you can see him in action.
It was a big time commitment to do the lessons, but they are totally worthwhile. It is nerve wracking to watch, but also amazing. Drowning is the second largest cause of accidental death in young children (after auto accidents). I wish that all children had the opportunity to learn these skills.
